Abstract. For electric vehicles (EVs), the motor is used as the power source to drive the vehicle. According to the arrangement of motors, there are four configurations: single-motor driving, dual-motor independent driving, wheel-motor driving, and dual-motor front- and rear-axle independent driving. Classification of Electric Motors Thus all application of DC motors have employed a mechanical switch or commutator to turn the terminal current, which is constant or DC, into alternating current in the armature of the machine. (Some PMDC motors have windings built into them to prevent this from happening). B- Shunt-Wound. An electric motor changes electrical energy into mechanical movement. A dynamo or an electric generator does the reverse: it changes mechanical movement into electric energy. Most electric motors work by using the force of magnetism. Electrostatic motors have also been used. Machines using electric motors include: fans, washing machines, fridges, pumps, and vacuum cleaners. Some DC electric motors can have a starting torque of % making them ideal for applications like electric cranes and trains. Three phase AC induction motors have self-starting torque, although single phase motors require auxiliary starting power.
